Al Fakher

🇦🇪 AE Website

The way into hookah for most people: light, predictable and almost immune to mistakes. Operating since 1999.

The tobacco most people start with

Al Fakher has operated since 1999 out of Ajman in the UAE and remains the most common entry point into hookah. The reason is not marketing but behaviour: it is light, predictable and nearly impossible to ruin with a bad pack. A mistake with heat or quantity is not punished with bitterness as fast as in dark blends — which is why people learn on it.

It also means the brand is not outgrown as decisively as people assume. When you want a long session without nicotine fatigue, or a hookah for a group, Al Fakher stays a working choice years later.

Two Apples, and the anise everyone misses

Two Apples is the headline release and probably the best-known hookah flavour that exists. Descriptions usually reduce it to “two apples”: sweet red and tart green. But the real reason it reads as the “classic hookah” taste is different — there is a clear anise undertone behind the apple, the black liquorice note.

If you were ever unable to explain why Two Apples resembles no other brand's apple flavour, that is the answer. And conversely: if you dislike anise, there is no point hunting for “the same but without it”, because that note is the thing itself.

“Made only in the UAE” is no longer true

The phrase still turns up in shop descriptions, but it is out of date. Production has long been distributed: the main hubs really are in the UAE (Dubai and Ajman), but jars are also made in Egypt and in Poland, where a factory in Grodzisk Mazowiecki opened in 2019 specifically to serve European demand.

In practice this means the country printed on your jar may differ from the one on a friend's — and that is not a sign of a counterfeit.

How to smoke it

Textbook stuff: a loose pack with a small gap to the foil, three coals. The leaf is light and moist enough that it needs no squeezing. Al Fakher holds a long session well and survives breaks calmly — which is exactly why it is so often the house tobacco in lounges, where a bowl is not tended every minute.

Packs are 50 and 250 g, with kilo tubs for venues.

Who it suits

Al Fakher is the right first tobacco and a dependable neutral option when you would rather not gamble. In mixes it works well as a base: it does not pull the composition around and adds no strength. For the same lightness with a different character, try Serbetli (honey and softness) or Fumari (juicy fruit); when it is time to move up in strength, MustHave.
